Paint the Town Red — Graphic Novel Illustration
I know I haven’t updated in a while, but here’s something new! This was a 3-page color comic project on whatever the hell we wanted. So, since I’m me, obviously I decided to do a weird depressing serial killer offing a prostitute. When I get it to class I get hit with the feminist card, mainly for the last panel. Arguments on how it’s too revealing and objectifying a pose and how if she is faceless I’m making the victim too detached. I explained I was portraying the comic through the son’s point of view, so it’s just seeing the women as he does. Oh well, I stand by my decisions.
tldr: fuck the police! I’ll draw titties and creepy murders if I wanna…

We had an in-class assignment today, spanning the 3 hours of class. The theme was ‘synergy’ a.k.a things being put together and making something epic. We were supposed to use previously scanned sketches and textures. I had a robot from some time back in first year, and a guy from a linear for a project this year that didn’t get approved. I think together they make a lovely couple :)

A peculiar book that I have yet to finish, but the bits I did read while doing this project really intrigued me. I hope this cover did the book some justice! It really deserves it too, seeing as all the current covers for the novel tend to be modern and digital …I dont know if they read the same book I did…

This editorial project didn’t go over well with the class (I tried to go too conceptual and my point was lost) which really got me down D’:< Screw it though, I enjoyed making it and actually liked how it durned out! I may go back and try out some class suggestions… if I every have the time.

There are points in my life when suddenly I feel I can change an aspect about myself for the better.
Like, maybe I can start working out! Or maybe I can eat better! Or maybe I can get that big project done super early!
I usually give up while I’m ahead.
Well this time I’ve got this crazy plan. I can make an official art tumblr. Get serious about posting, about drawing in general, about gaining a following - even if its just my friends when I post to facebook like an annoying, self-promoting fool, but hey, I’m an art student, thats what we do >:P
